Frustrated with international pressure on
its development of missile and nuclear weapons, fretful North Korea launched
three ballistic missiles to Japan Sea on Monday, which touched down at 200
kilometers from Okushiri Island of Japan. Having realized the place within
economic exclusive zone of Japan, Japanese government denounced North Korea of
its reckless intimidation to neighbor countries. An inconvenient fact is,
however, missile technology of North Korea is actually improving.
The missiles were launched from Huangju,
North Huanghae, located close to its Capital, Pyongyang. They were intermediate
ballistic missiles, named Rodong, that had 1,300 kilometers of targeting range.
Three missiles cruised about 1,000 kilometers and touched down on the sea as close
as 200 kilometers from the coast of Japan. While it was possible that Japanese
fishing boats were working around the place, no damage was reported so far.
Japanese government immediately responded
to the consecutive intimidation of North Korea. “International society or
United Nations Security Council needs to take decisive measures on this
intolerable intimidation during world leaders get together for Group 20 Summit
Meeting,” told Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in the meeting of G20 in Hangzhou,
China. While Abe reconfirmed close communication with United States President
Barack Obama and South Korean President Park Geun-hye, Japanese government
protested to North Korea through diplomatic route in Beijing, China.
It is likely that North Korea was
frustrated with discussion in G20, which included threat of the North’s
development of missiles and nuclear weapons. North Korea has launched more than
twenty of missiles after U.N.S.C passes a resolution to enhance sanction
against it this March. By demonstrating its missile technology, Pyongyang showed
firm opposition against international society and tried to stabilize Kim
Jong-un regime.
The intimidation actually isolates
Pyongyang from international community. U.N.S.C. held urgent session on Tuesday
and issued a statement to the press. “The members of the Security Council
deplore all Democratic People’s Republic of Korea ballistic missile
activities,” said the statement. As a permanent member with veto, China joined the
concerted action to denounce North Korea, which had harmed honor of hosting first
G20 meeting in China.
Ministry of Defense of Japan focuses on the
fact that three missiles were simultaneously launched and touched down on a small
area of the sea. “Their technology is actually improving,” told Minister of Defense,
Tomomi Inada. Unleashed North Korea is getting a greater and serious threat for
Japan.
