It was too heavy for the Japanese to see
the ugliest debate ever in the Presidential race of the country that is
designated by Prime Minister as the indispensable ally. Over the TV footage
coming through Pacific Ocean, they saw possibly next President of the United
States were insulting each other on a lewd conversation recorded over a decade
ago. It is not unlikely that the Japanese realize U.S. Presidency as filled
with kinky desire for sexual assault.
There was a few notifications in Japan when
the “locker room talk” was revealed by U.S. media, which were fundamentally
against that GOP candidate. But, the impact of the conversation was
sensational. “I’m automatically attracted to beautiful women – I just start
kissing them, it’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And when you’re
a star, they let you do it. They let you do it. You can do anything --, Grab’em
by the pussy,” was it. Even a biased Japanese who believes U.S. guys would be
as wild as animal had to be embarrassed.
What made Donald Trump a beast was
referring to past sex scandal of former President who was a spouse of his
counterpart. “If you look at Bill Clinton, far worse. Mine were words and his
was action. What he’s done to women, there’s never been anybody in the history
of politics in this nation that’s been so abusive to women,” said Trump. The
pot called the kettle black. Hillary Clinton retaliated with denouncement that
Trump was unfit for President and Commander in Chief.
Mainichi Shimbun raised a headline
“Degraded Dignity of Presidential Election” for its editorial on Wednesday.
“What a deplorable scene it was. Two competitors for next Presidency started
policy argument without shaking hands, and with no detailed discussion, they
entered into insulting personality of each other,” described the article. While
the paper more criticized Trump than his counterpart of his unfitness for
President, it also disappointed with Hillary losing temper with consistent
intimidation from the other side.
It is preferable for Japan that possible
President who can be requiring Japan further payment for security support of
U.S. Force will be dropped out from the Presidential race. But, confidence on
Hillary Clinton declines as she is involved in ugly discussion with Trump. One
thing unclear is whether sober U.S. citizens will be more concerned internal
politics than international relations that have to be critical for a small
island nation in Northeast Asia.
