Still a Man of Gaffe

Without any obvious enthusiasm, Liberal Democratic Party looks like achieving a sweeping victory in the election of the House of Representatives. If there is a slight chance for the opposites to change this stream, it should be some gaffe of the leaders of LDP. Former Prime Minister, Taro Aso, is one of the possible targets of the opposites and he has made some in the campaign speeches. However, this outdated politician might not have enough power to stop LDP’s advance.

In Matsumoto City on Saturday, Nagano, Aso hurled harsh words to small and mid-size business. “We undoubtedly achieved certain results. Ratio of profit of companies became the highest in these sixty-years. If a company has not gained that result, it should be extremely unfortunate or its manager is incompetent,” told Aso. This comment ignored the hardship of small and mid-size business, which Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, is even worried about. Secretary General of opposite Democratic Party of Japan, Yukio Edano, denounced Aso, saying “That Minister of Finance completely misunderstands the situation of small and mid-size business. It was a symbol of arrogance.”

Miswording was reiterated. In Sapporo City on Sunday, Aso made another gaffe. “Although the most have negative image on aged people, it is the problem that women do not give birth,” told Aso in his speech about coming highly aged society. One of the former Ministers with LDP once told that woman is machine of giving birth, the gaffe which was recognized as a basic notion of LDP lawmakers. Aso might have endorsed it.

No one is surprised with his careless statement. Last year, he told that Abe administration should introduce the method of Nazis in amending the Constitution, indicating secret maneuver covered by high popularity on the leader. Previously, he also told that terminal medical care should be arranged for patients to be able to die soon. He is too careless in making a speech to be a prominent politician.

Except making strange statements, Aso has not obtained any outstanding achievement as Minister of Finance. Although he was in the position for persuading Abe not to postpone consumption tax hike, no action did he make in the process of the decision. While he is protected by someone who are popular or abler than him, such a figure as Abe, Aso does not hesitate sending ridiculously bold messages. If he is willing to take the position of Prime Minister again, there have been too many irrelevant words coming from his mouth. He is just too weak to take his responsibility.
