Unimplemented 100 Days

Contradicting boastful allegation of glorious achievement by the President of United States, Japanese media labeled first 100 days of Donald Trump administration as lacking of implementation of his policy. The insufficiency is seen in immigration block, tax reduction, nomination of major staffs, building up great wall on the border or abolishment of Obamacare. During these 100 days, Japanese people realized the word Trump not as card game but as bad name.

Asahi Shimbun raised headlines on the front page, which read “Great America Standstill In Policy” or “Boasting Achievement, Contradicting Reality.” “Although he delivered exaggerated policies through 479 tweets and over 30 executive orders, they faced great wall of Congress, the judicial branch or diplomacy before implementation and Donald Trump’s ‘America First’ is standing still,” evaluated the cover story on Monday.

Escaping annual dinner of White House press corps, known as a venue of showing President’s sense of humor, Trump made a trip to Harrisburg, PA, a city representing old prosperity of steel or manufacturing industry dubbed as Rustbelt. “I could not possible be more thrilled than to be more than 100 miles away from Washington’s swamp, spending my evening with all of you, and with a much, much larger crowd and much better people, right?” said Trump in a rally.

Trump promised revitalization of Rustbelt with introducing unusual protectionism in U.S. trade policy. Although he signed an executive order to pull U.S. out of Trans-Pacific Partnership, renegotiation over North American Free Trade Agreement has not been started. While Trump yelled that U.S. would withdraw from NAFTA, if fair agreement had not been achieved, next U.S. Trade Representatives was not approved by Senate.

Another executive order for blocking immigrants from Middle East or Islamic nations was dismissed by the courts. Historically greatest tax reduction, which financial resource was not be presented, was criticized as not helping low income families, but well-to-dos. Budget for building great wall on the border of Mexico was not approved even by Republicans, and no construction has been started. Immediate abolishment of Obamacare was also rejected.

The world protests Trump administration. Protesting Trump’s policy of withdrawing Paris Agreement on climate change, demonstration for appealing importance of measures against global warming was held in 370 places in the world. Japanese government has been annoyed with his unilateral decisions as seen in withdrawal from TPP. For Japanese people, the sufferings of U.S. citizens looks like a tragedy of democracy.
