Disastrous Press Conference

The Japanese people were appalled with an ugly exchange between a TV journalist and President-elect of the frontrunner of democracy in the world. Labeling CNN fake news, Donald Trump refused to give them a question in his first press conference since he had been elected to next United States President held on Wednesday. The conference reminded the world of prolonged battle between President and media, which may erode the status as an only superpower.

The question from a reporter was about Trump’s tweet asking were they living in Nazi Germany. Trump got excited, saying it was disgraceful. “As far as Buzzfeed, which is a failing pile of garbage, writing it, I think they’re going to suffer the consequences. They already are. And as far as CNN going out of their way to build up – and by the way, we just found out I was coming down,” told Trump, accusing two media organization. A Japanese newspaper explained that Trump’s attack on those two organizations was a retaliation to their report of Russia’s possession of information dishonorable to Trump. Buzzfeed revealed a document about his sexual intercourse in a hotel room in Moscow.

While the reporter asked another chance to question, Trump refused it and asked questions from different media organization. “Since you are attacking us, can you give us a question?” insisted Jim Acosta with CNN. Trump ignored the following question, hurling words like “Your organization is terrible” or “Quiet.” That was not a press conference in democratic nation, even if it could be seen in some democratic people’s republics, but a TV show for the people who had been frustrated with news reports challenging political power.

The Japanese were also surprised with Trump admitting intervention of Russia in U.S. Presidential election. “As far as hacking, I think it was Russia,” told Trump. For further surprise, Trump tried to sell it. “Well, if Putin likes Donald Trump, I consider that an asset, not a liability, because we have a horrible relationship with Russia. Russia can help us fight ISIS,” argued Trump. Has Russia ever helped U.S. on anything, President-elect?

Trump also attacked Japan. “We have hundreds of billions of dollars of losses on a yearly basis – hundreds of billions with China on trade and trade imbalance, with Japan, with Mexico, with just about everybody,” said Trump. He kept on discouraging corporations to move out of U.S., indicating possibility of higher tax on them, and announced to review trade deals with foreign countries, calling them “disaster.” It is a disaster for Japan that an incoming U.S. leader made no sense, causing steep decline in stock market.
